Rotary Notes,  12/4/14
 
Our meeting began with the singing of the National Anthem robustly led by our guest speaker and long-time Rotarian, Allan Frumkin.  Allan was a Past Rotary District Governor, and is one of the best speakers in the world of Rotary. His talk was on "Service Above Self – What’s In It For Me?"
 
Past President Greeter today was Dave Cresson and Warren Barmore, read an inspirational thought on “gratitude.”
  
 
3. Guests:     
Guest of Dave Cresson, Joe Mailard.   He was the original founder of Ocean Shore Printing and began the Cadillac Ball which was one of the Clubs' first major fundraisers in addition to the Pumpkin Festival. That led to a number of variations, including Rotary at the Ritz, and our current Magic of the Coastside.  Joe was a very important contributor to the  community for many, many years and a very active member of our Club.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Georgia Antonopoulos was the guest of  E.J.  She is the new Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club. and our speaker just before Thanksgiving.

4. Veterans Dave Cresson and Dick Charnock were ​honored with special pins honoring veterans from our District Governor, Chris Gallagher.
                        
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Happy-Crappy News 
 
 Kendall Flint had both a crappy and a happy. She  drove the Altamont Pass in a horrible downpour while windshield wipers blew out and came out OK.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Steve Wilson announced his move to Miramar Drive is complete. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Again, a mixture of happy and crappy—Rosie Fontana’s son was caught in pouring rain on the 101, but avoided an accident. The Hwy Patrol tow truck driver was on the scene almost immediately to help.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Announcements
Kevin O’Brien:  Polio Plus raised $396.00 from the club.  Each dollar was matched 2 for 1 and  earned over $1,000.00 for vaccinations
 
 Kevin read a “Foundation Minute” about the help given for youth  in Chester, PA through the Chester Internship program, a collaboration of 22 organizations.  Rotary clubs from all over the world donated up to $41,800.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Elizabeth Schuck—Reminder about our Cookies for Troops project.  Catherine is organizing this.  Please bring cookies, socks, etc.  to send to troops on Thurs. Dec 11 right after the meeting.  The wrapping boxes and materials will be provided for you. Please stay to get them ready to send.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 John Evans—bought a tree at a HMBHS Christmas tree sale.  He auctioned it off to Club Members.  He will donate the money to Rotary. Steve Wilson ended up with the tree for $60 bid which went to the Rotary Club coffers to help cover the Dictionary Project.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Joe Brennan gave an update on the "I want to end polio ow Spaghetti Dinner.  There is a new date:  January 27th.  $20.00 ticket, earning money to fight polio.  Kendall has arranged for it to be held at the Senior Center
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Tony Roehrick reminded everyone that there would be a World Community Service meeting after today’s general meeting
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Charise McHugh spoke of the Christmas parade the next day and a meeting to follow and also the “Stuff the Bus” chamber event.  People should bring toys for kids in need.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Warren Barmore announced that Interact will be selling hot chocolate at the Night of Lights event on Friday.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Mitone Griffiths handed out the Magic of the Coastside Sponsorhip opportunities list. Event sponsorships begin at $100, $250, $500 and $1000+ Event sponsors in the $500 and $1000 levels will be added to the Magic of the Coastside posters which will be printed in Feb. for distribution. So get your Sponsorship set with Mitone as soon as possible!
 
Brian Lee had the lucky number for the marble drawing - and drew a green marble. Maybe next time!
