Program: Dave's Farewell and Fie and Family Visit
President Dave Andrews’ last meeting was celebrated with the affectionate but raucous humor that has characterized his presidency and enjoyed by all present with best wishes for his next experience as a Past President.
Decorating each table in the room were Popsicle-stick rods holding photos of our smiling President.
Among the things that made the meeting special were guests Fie Bundgaard Kristensen, exchange student from Denmark who was hosted by the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay, visiting with her family: brother Anders, mother Helle and father John, who were warmly greeted by Half Moon Bay Rotarians as they enjoyed their lunch. President Dave put his remarks in the form of his famous quizzes-and-answers, asking Rotarians “What is the best thing about Denmark? What is Denmark famous for? What is its best export?” “FIE!” roared back the answer.

President Dave also touched on the historical, asking the club to identify the importance of catgut. When everyone was fairly puzzled he answered that that term identifies straits between Norway, Sweden and Denmark, which were coveted by the Germans for their strategic importance as access to those countries during World War II.
Musical entertainment that saluted President Dave included a lively duet sung by Rotarians Christine Quinn and President-elect Elizabeth Schuck. Sung to the familiar tune that everyone knows about “those daring young men on the flying trapeze,” its lyrics, written by Christine and Liz, went something like this: “We breezed through the year with the greatest of ease / With our quiz-loving president who shows off his knees / It’s been quite successful, I think we agree / And so we say Hip Hip Hooray, Congratulations Dave!”
Then our esteemed President took the podium to acknowledge and thank Half Moon Bay Rotarians whom he felt had particularly helped him out during his term:
He thanked board members Warren Barmore (Youth Services,) Dwight Wilson (Club Administration,) Joe Brennan (World Community Service,) Rosi Fontana (Community Service,) Paul Wrubel (Membership and Public Relations,) David  Maahs and then Rosi Fontana, Secretary and Maya Munro and then Ed Daniels, Treasurer.
He also recognized other Rotarians for specific reasons and services in his Rotary career and presidency: Dianne Bobko and Liz Schuck for what he described as the “Got My Six” (or “Always Had My Back”) award. For guidance and support he recognized Ginger Minoletti who introduced him to and brought him into Rotary, Kevin O’Brien as a friend and mentor to him both in Rotary and in business, Eric Shapira “who gave me advice, gives me advice and will continue such even when I’m dead,” and Bill Johnston “without whom I could not have been President or even local. He has been a remarkable friend and mentor.”
President Dave then topped off the meeting by admitting that he had been stressing over a suitable farewell gift for his board, until he finally came up with a “remarkably generous” thank-you gift which he presented to the Half Moon Bay Rotary Foundation and Endowment.
He left the podium amid cheers and the parting words: “Remember: It’s not about who you are, it’s about who you was"
