Starts His Year As President

Warren Barmore opened his meeting as President by stating, "We are the best club, and I am honored to be the President." He asked Dianne Bobko to lead the club in the pledge of allegiance. John Evans as Sergeant at Arms stated that Rotary is all about relationships and how supporting study abroad enhances our relationships worldwide.
Pres Warren gives PP Liz Schuck her beautiful, sparkly "Past President" pin. Liz then gave Warren his "President" pin.

Visitors and Guests
John Evans introduced a former exchange student who was visiting from Italy by the name of Giuseppe Mezzarosa. Giuseppe was an Exchange Student 5 years ago. He was very popular, participated in a variety of activities and actually “graduated” from HMB High School. He is going to graduate school in Spain next year.
Also attending were Bill Johnston’s spouse Ayn and Dave Dixon’s spouse Marla.
Happy/Not So Happy News
Dianne Bobko announced that Ruth Rubello (past Service Above Self honoree) was awarded the AAUW Named Gift Honoree for the State of California.
Shana Reilly-Pond complimented the Club on the personal experience everyone had at the 4th of July parade and complimented the group on the signs that were carried and were on the walls today. She also talked about how her daughter gave driving lessons to her future son-in-law.
EJ Dieterle supported making sure Rotary is recognized where ever we go including with the pictures we/he takes.
Paul Wrubel thanked Mary Rogren for the wonderful reception she gave to Caroline Gossart, our exchange student, at her home last Friday.
Stacey Trevenon was offering fresh eggs from her chickens to club members.
Dave Andrews donated a check to our Foundation for twice his age and commended how great this tradition is.
Steve Wilson announced he was going to be the second host for one of the incoming exchange students, and that his son has been selected to be the North American SAFE Software lead.
Rose Serdy announced his son proposed to a beautiful woman by taking her out to dinner and the play, Hamilton. Rose could not be happier.
Paul Wrubel announced one of his letter to the editor was published in the NY Times and that his son-in-law took him and his family out to the French Laundry.
Rosi Fontana announced her granddaughter who attends St. Ignacio has chosen to go to Cal on a soccer scholarship even though she is only a sophomore.
Announcements
The 4th of July parade was an exciting event, and Rotary got a lot of recognition from it. There was a nice social event afterwords and 20 of us were at the event.
Message from our President
President Warren encourages everyone to wear their Rotary pin. He mentioned that at the Rotary International Annual meeting Bill Gates announced $450 million was pledged to rid the world from polio. Rotary is pledging $50 million a year for three years with a 2 for 1 pledge from the Bill Gates Foundation.
Warren showed a slide show on polio, and Dianne talked about her experience in seeing the ravages of polio in Nigeria where she has worked and visited often.
Last month our club turned 47 years old
Last month Rotary Foundation turned 100 years old
17 years ago the Giants played their first game at PacBell Park and they beat the Rockies.

Warren continued that this year's RI theme is “Rotary, Making a Difference.”
The Rotary International President Ian Riseley stated that this is Rotary’s year to shine, and there should be fun through fellowship.

Warren stated his goals as
Add members and younger people under 40
100% members in a service project
100% Paul Harris fellows and every Rotarian contributes at least $200 a year.
Host a Chamber mixer
Host and promote a community event
Warren handed out to each member a survey to be completed and returned during the meeting.
He announced important dates coming up:
August 19th – Joint meeting with Pacifica
September 28th – Ron Jenn, District Governor visit
Warren was given his own gavel and a President’s survival poster with 12 items and themes to get through the year from Liz. She also gave Warren a letter wishing him a great year as President.
