CLUB ASSEMBLY

President Warren Barmore conducted the Club Assembly beginning with a short and sweet video entitled Rotarians in Action.
He outlined the exercise by requesting each of us to quantify our contribution to the community for/through Rotary. He passed around a tally sheet for each member to itemize our hours, travel time, and in kind donations value for each event/activity. The period under consideration is from June 31, 2017 to present. There being no such thing as June 31st because of some Roman Emperors*, he meant July 1st, 2017. Warren noted the US tax service sets the value of volunteer hours at $24/hour.
The attending members socialized as we quantified and recorded out community donations. Warren played music to quantify and socialize by...I remember the Eagles and there were others.

Warren announced our big annual fundraiser, Magic of the Coast, is coming up again on Saturday June 2nd. He solicited committee members to help plan, organize and produce the event and called the first meeting in his office at 6PM on Tuesday January 30th. Volunteers included Theresa Adam, Rose Fontana, Liz Schuck, Paul Wrubel, Renee Lewis and Mary Rogen. It was suggested that we engage the band Johnny and the Cameras who play the Legion every Saturday night. There was some discussion about the theme for this year, noting it was Mardi Gras last year. The 60’s was suggested for 2018.
Mary Rogen who handled the auction expertly last year suggested we look at it closely in regard to number of items, price points and bigger prizes. Ginger, who handled the auction for years, noted that since it is a limited number of people you can get the same money with a lower number of items. There was at past events a mystery box in the center of each table which all sitting there bought a chance to take home and a random selection was made - it was suggested that we bring it back this year..
* While laying out the Calendar the Romans figured that if the months alternately had 30 and 31 days it would all work out and be easy to remember (with the anomaly of February). But there were Emperor egos to be dealt with in the form of Augustus and Julius whose names graced adjacent months. Neither was willing to have one day less than the other so both August and July have 31 days giving us the calendar we use today and inspiring one child to say and all to remember: "Thirty days has November, All the rest I don’t remember."
