The subject of today’s talk is opening a new business in these unusual times. Our member Ginger Minoletti moderated The talk. She herself is a successful business woman and boadr member of the Half Moon Bay Chamber of Commerce.

Our two presenters were Colleen Henney of Jupiter & Main At 432-B Main and Michael Tornatore Operations Manager of Fattoria e Mare at 315 Main Street. These two business openings landed in the middle of the Pandemic muddle so are interesting case studies. Jupiter and Main is already open, and Fattoris e Mare plans a late November opening.
Jupiter and Main is a boutique specializing in “Unique Goods for Extraordinary People”, a place where you can buy a nice gift for a man. They are renown for their beautiful gift wrapping. In Roman Mythology Jupiter is God of the Sky and lightening, in Greek Mythology his name is Zeus, king of the sky and thunder. In Astrology Jupiter is the Planet of good living, growth, healing, prosperity good fortune, miracles and male energy. Business is doing well considering the limitations of proper Covid health protocols. Coleen’s husband is an artist which has a positive influence on the shop and its offerings.

Fattoria E Mare is a northern Italian Restaurant which successfully operated in Burlingame until the building they were in was slated for demolition for a big project. The owners decided to down size to Half Moon Bay. They have been engaged in renovating the space formerly occupied by Pasta Moon at the corner of Main Street and Pilarcitos Creek. Renovations include floors, ceilings, kitchen, restrooms and exteriors.
The chef Pablo with Michelin stars to his credit. They pride themselves on their seafood menu.

Asked how he will get people through to the door Michael said they will hold their high dining standards and will encourage business meetings and family gatherings. He is also pondering offering a mixology class. Michael was asked how he will survive under the limitation of operating at 25% capacity due ot Covid rules. He said that when they started in Burlingame in 2014, 2015 they only had 25 to 30% and they made it. He says that creative ways to stay relevant are always challenging. He says Chef Pablo will make the ultimate menu and diversity decisions. Their specialties are seafood; mentioning Squid Ink Rissoto, Scallops east coast style and Pasta and seafood are specialties.

Both speakers were thanked with a Certificate noting inoculations for Polio eradication were provided in their name.

Dave Andrews gets credit for drayage of tools etc. for hte job. Mary was the cheerleader and photographer. Rose  and Mary provided treats to go along with the sandwiches fro Spangler provided by Eric. Stacy wrote and got her report with photos in the Review for some great club publicity!
