Magic Auction Maven Extraordinaire Elizabeth Schuck wowed the crowd with a few magic tricks of her own.  The veteran auction coordinator, dressed for the occasion with wizard headgear and a wand, gave us a rundown on last year’s results.  We cleared $6,524.47  in our first ever online auction.

Items that sold well—Food and gourmet items, tickets to sports and other events, unique experiences, art, wine, gift certificates…

Feedback from those present:
The luau event was terrific according to attendee Mitone (Val was the winning bid).
Rosie Fontana is willing to do her famous tamalada again—this is learning to make tamales.  She is also willing to add a class on making an Italian meatball dish.  These are not simply “classes”, you know Rosie, it will be an event.
According to Rosie, Val’s baseball tickets were wonderful—again more of an experience or event than just tickets.

Recapping a few factoids for the crowd, the funds go to our Club Foundation, one of the major beneficiaries is the Rotacare Clinic.  This is our major fundraising event.  Last year’s goal was $10,000, we came very close.  This year our intrepid entrepreneur is thinking big—our goal is $20,000.  Hey, last year was the first year we did an online auction, now we’re experienced…we can do this!

To aid us in our efforts to bring in those profitable items, Liz will be sending out a list of items that sell well—based on other organizations’ successful auctions.  As you work on gathering items, please remember that image is important—please obtain good ones.  Need help with that?  EJ has volunteered to help with that.

We are already off to a good start.
Items submitted so far:
sports tickets (Kevin);
Broadway Show tickets (Dianne);
Pumpkin Fest parking John);
restaurant gift certificates (Ginger will coordinate so we don’t double up on them);
a cruise on the Potomac, FDR’s floating Whitehouse (Joe);
Italian meatball dinner (Rosie);
Spanish tutoring (Rosie);
college advising (Paul).

A bit of brainstorming came up with
holiday or party decorating;
four hour boat tour (Ginger—seriously, I don’t make this stuff up);
a ride and picnic with Steve’s classic car…

Despite being billed as a “working session” we had fun, and made quite a bit of progress.  If you have questions, please check with Liz.  Don’t forget, if you need to get photos of your items, EJ will help you.
